Download Grich
Local-first dictation. Whisper runs on your machine; your audio never leaves it.
Grich is a desktop application. There is no mobile version, and there are no plans for one — a phone build would be a different product rather than a port.

Before you download
- NVIDIA GPU required. Transcription runs on CUDA. A CPU-only path exists in the code but is not yet verified on machines without NVIDIA drivers, so treat an NVIDIA card with current drivers as a hard requirement for now. AMD and Intel GPUs are not accelerated.
- The installer is not code-signed yet. Windows SmartScreen will show a “Windows protected your PC” warning. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Every download below lists its SHA-256 if you want to check what you have.
- It is a large download. The bundled CUDA runtime accounts for most of it. Trimming that is planned.

Version history
0.5.0 2026-10-05
- Renamed from Paravoice to Grich: window title, tray, installer, the entry in Add/Remove Programs, the `grich.exe` binary and the download URLs. Installing 0.5.0 replaces Paravoice 0.4.2 in place rather than sitting next to it.
- Settings do not carry across the rename. Grich reads `%APPDATA%\grich\config.ason` and leaves Paravoice's `%APPDATA%\paravoice\` alone, so the microphone, model and other preferences reset once.
- The CUDA libraries and Whisper weights download again after the rename: they live under `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Grich\cuda` now, and nothing is copied from the old folder. Uninstalling Grich deletes that CUDA copy, which the old installer left behind.
- The installer no longer bundles the CUDA runtime. The app offers to download it (about 311 MB) on first start and switches to the GPU as soon as it is in place; decline it, or have no NVIDIA card, and Grich runs on the CPU.
- A missing NVIDIA driver or VC++ runtime no longer stops the app from starting. It falls back to CPU-only instead of failing at launch.
- The C runtime is linked statically, so no Visual C++ redistributable has to be installed first.
- Downloads resume. An interrupted model or CUDA download continues from the bytes already on disk instead of starting over, waits a stated interval before retrying, and verifies SHA-256 before the file is used.
- One download manager with progress drawn inline in the window, counting the bytes a partially downloaded file already holds.
- Silence is judged by whether a second contains speech rather than by how loud it is. A Silero voice detector drives the gate, so quiet speech is transcribed and an utterance ends at the pause instead of waiting for a louder one — this fixes the dropping of soft speech.
- A recording with nothing in it gets no inference pass at all, and passes run only when there is something to do, so silence costs no GPU.
- The tray has an icon of its own, sized for its slot and tinted for the taskbar theme, and the app icon's redrawn small sizes now show in the taskbar and title bar.
- `--minimized` starts the app in the tray without opening a window, and the installer can autostart it there at login.
- Drawn with wgpu instead of glow, on eframe 0.36.2; a small-block memory hint and DX12-first adapter selection cut the VRAM the window holds.
- Fixed the waveform repainting itself forever after a recording, and it no longer repaints when there are no bars to draw.
- Third-party licences now ship with the app, generated from the dependencies actually built into it.
